Today we celebrate World Book and Copyright Day, a day that emphasizes the importance of reading as a tool of nourishing our imagination and opening ourselves to others despite the distance, especially during periods of confinement where books have proved to be powerful tools to combat isolation, reinforce ties between people, expand our horizons while stimulating our minds and creativity.
Through time, books were always a form of art that share our cultural identity, common heritage, shared values, and ethics.
As we celebrate the AU year of the Arts, Culture and Heritage: levers for building Africa We Want, we shall always count on books to ensure that the creative arts are major contributors to Africa’s growth and transformation, and preserving Africa’s cultural heritage, including languages.
